Right ways for cleaning your dentures will make them feel and look great!

 To reduce levels of biofilm and potentially harmful bacteria and fungi, dentures should be 

1. Soaked and brush the dentures daily with an effective, nonabrasive denture cleansers.
2. cleaned OUTSIDE of the mouth.
3. always rinsed the dentures thoroughly after using any denture cleansing solution, before placing them back in your mouth.
4. moisturised all the time
5. soaked dentures in solutions containing sodium hypochlorite bleach for more than 10 minutes.
6. Store dentures immersed in water when they are not in the mouth, to avoid warping.

How to clean your dentures.

Some studies indicate that using an effervescent cleaner is a superior way to clean a denture. If you use a brush to clean the denture be aware that the abrasiveness of denture cleansing pastes can cause roughness on the surface of the denture. This can allow more bacteria to adhere to your denture.

Of the immersion products available, sodium hypochlorite (bleach) may be the most effective, but only when used properly (10 minutes maximum of soaking). Studies have shown that it can kill methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), a major pathogen in the immunocompromised patient.

Another way to clean dentures is with Ultrasonic devices. These work by producing ultrasonic sound waves (20-120 kilohertz) which create microscopic bubbles that grow and implode. In terms of speech, it is common to experience some minor speech changes, but it won’t take too long for your tongue and lips to re-learn where they go to regain you original speech patterns.

Will dentures affect the chewing?

There is a difference in the way you eat with dentures as compared to natural teeth and this will take some time to adjust to.For example, imagine biting into an apple. With your natural teeth, you would bite into the apple and tear the piece of apple away from the rest of the fruit. With dentures, you must learn how to bite into the apple, but not pull your head away until the pear is already in your mouth. It is really a small adjustment and should not take much time for you to learn.

As a tip for new denture wearers, start with soft foods and ensure that it is cut into small pieces rather than trying to bite with your front teeth as this can tend to dislodge the denture. Remember, the successful use of your dentures depends on your effort to master them. To learn to eat with your new teeth will take practice, patience and determination.
