Saliva
Dental Dentures
Because an artificial denture is a new object in the mouth, you may at first develop an excessive flow of saliva. This reaction is perfectly natural and after a while, it will reduce as you become accustomed to the dentures. The best way to overcome this temporary discomfort is to persevere in wearing the dentures. The use of a peppermint sweet helps. In any case, if you bear in mind that a flow of saliva has always been going on unnoticed in your mouth before you started using your dentures, you quickly realise that it is quite a normal condition. The dentures also require a certain amount of saliva to work properly. Some people have sticky saliva and this really aids in the retention of the upper denture. If you don’t have such saliva, occasionally you will need a light powder fixative to hold the dentures more firmly.  A dry mouth also called Xerostomia may cause the dentures to feel loose and occasionally sore as well. Visit Denture Square Denture Clinic if this condition exist, as saliva substitutes are readily available in the market.

Your Dentures on your way?

Your Dentures on your way?

Before you get your first set of dentures, you are always wondering how dentures are going to change your life. Will you look different? Will your speech be affected? How will wearing dentures change the way you eat? Will dentures make me look different?
The most likely answer is that your face will look fuller and look great. The technology used to make dentures has advanced to the point that each set of dentures is personalized to your whole mouth, including your gums, lips and tongue.
To ensure the fit and appearance of your new dentures, We will create waxed up model dentures in the exact shape and position of the proposed dentures. This allows you to try the models to make sure they fit right. In addition, the waxed up dentures will show you the color and shape of the new sets of teeth to ensure your comfort with the appearance of your new smile.

Will dentures affect my speech?

There will be an adjustment period for first time denture wearers and it will take some practice and perseverance to overcome this(normally about1~2weeks). In terms of speech, it is common to experience some minor speech changes, but it won’t take too long for your tongue and lips to re-learn where they go to regain you original speech patterns.
Will dentures affect the chewing?
There is a difference in the way you eat with dentures as compared to natural teeth and this will take some time to adjust to.For example, imagine biting into an apple. With your natural teeth, you would bite into the apple and tear the piece of apple away from the rest of the fruit. With dentures, you must learn how to bite into the apple, but not pull your head away until the pear is already in your mouth. It is really a small adjustment and should not take much time for you to learn.
As a tip for new denture wearers, start with soft foods and ensure that it is cut into small pieces rather than trying to bite with your front teeth as this can tend to dislodge the denture. Remember, the successful use of your dentures depends on your effort to master them. To learn to eat with your new teeth will take practice, patience and determination.

First Dentures in your life 3.

Eating with Dentures
When the jaw closes into its relaxed positions, the back teeth should meet evenly each side and there should not be any contact with the front teeth in this position. This allows you to chew food on the back teeth without the front teeth interfering and causing movement of the dentures. The front teeth should only meet when the lower jaw moves forward and bites through a sandwich or biscuit etc and then the back teeth take over for chewing, although this will depend on the individuals jaw relationship/bite.
When you receive your new dentures you should practice eating with them slowly, taking in small amounts of food until you become accustomed to them as this will feel strange at first and normally fell quite a mouthful until you get used to them.
When you begin eating with your new dentures, it is important to start slowly. Eating may present difficulties. In fact, it is the most difficult part of mastering your new dentures. You must not be discouraged if you experience a few failures at first: natural teeth are firmly fixed in bone, while artificial dentures only rest on the bone. When chewing on one side you may notice a tendency for the dentures to tip and loosen on the opposite side. Attempt to chew on both sides with the teeth. This will help prevent your dentures from tipping. Provided you are patient and spend the necessary time practising, you will learn to control the dentures automatically by using the muscles of mastication in your mouth. All the muscles must learn what they should and should not do. With some new dentures, it may have been necessary to increase the height of your upper and lower teeth so as to have them contact sooner. With a change such as this, you will have to develop new chewing habits simply because you will be chewing your food at a different position than that of your old dentures. Begin with eating food that does not need hard chewing. Also take smaller mouthfuls and chew slowly and evenly. At first do not bit off with your front teeth; you will learn to do that later. Cut the food into smaller pieces that can easily be put into your mouth, try eating porridge or yoghurt. As you become more skilled at using your dentures, you will be able to try harder and tougher foods, maybe even soft fruit. You may also have difficulty with very thin foods such as lettuce and the skins of apples or tomatoes. You will find apples easy to eat if you peel them into slices or quarters.

Speaking
(Dentures Albany Creek) Speaking may seem strange or even difficult at first. This is because your tongue has to learn where the teeth are. It is a good idea to read aloud to yourself for short periods during the first few days. Take occasional sips of water from a glass, as reading aloud will make your mouth feel dry. There is no need to be embarrassed about speaking; other people are much less aware of the awkwardness than you are. This is because your own voice doesn’t sound the same to other people as it does to you. This is because your own voice doesn’t sound the same to other people as it does to you. When you hear yourself speak, most of the sound reaches your ears by means of vibrations in the bones of the jaw and skull, this varies from the sound that travels through the air in the ordinary way. Therefore, any small changes become much more noticeable to the speaker than to anyone else. (Dentures Albany Creek)
Taste
Patients frequently report that the sense of taste is affected when they first wear dentures. They sometimes think that this is caused by the palate being covered by the dentures. In fact, taste buds are only present on the tongue, not in the palate. There are two reasons why food seems to lose some of it’s taste: First the feeling of the food being squashed against the palate is lost; second although the taste buds are working quite normally, the message they send to the brain is interrupted by the large number of sensory nerves in the mouth, telling the brain that a strange new object is in the mouth. As you become more accustomed to your dentures your brain pays less attention to these messages from the sensory nerves. When this happens, food regains its taste.

First Dentures in your life 1.

Dentures Bridgeman Downs
First Impressions
The teeth on your dentures have been placed as near as possible to the exact position you natural teeth occupied. This will support your lips and cheeks and give you as natural an appearance as possible. You can expect to undergo a period of awkwardness while getting used to the dentures. Your first reaction may be that you have suddenly acquired a tremendous mouthful and that your lips are being pushed forward excessively by teeth that seem too big.(Dentures Bridgeman Downs) This should not worry you, because the feeling of fullness will soon wear off as you become accustomed to the new dentures in you mouth.
You may think that because they feel very big to you, they will appear big to others. This is not so and there should be no need for embarrassment. You may have a feel of gagging or excessive salivation, but after you have worn the dentures for a short time, these sensations will disappear. While you are learning to use your new dentures, it is necessary to have patience. Control of your dentures may be difficult at first, but gradually it will be automatic. The time required to become accustomed to new dentures varies considerably with each individual: some master their dentures in a very short time; others require weeks of patience to do so. It usually takes an average of four to eight weeks to become fully accustomed to your new dentures.
We, Denture Square look forward to fulfill the denture needs of patients who travel from Albany Creek, Alderley, Arana Hills, Ashgrove, Aspley, Bardon, Bald Hills, Bunya, Brendale, Bridgeman Downs, Carseldine, Cashmere, Chermside West, Chermside, Closeburn, Eatons Hill, Enoggera, Everton Hills, Everton Park, Ferny Grove, Ferny Hills, Kedron, Kelvin Grove, Lutwyche, Morayfield, Mitchelton, NewMarket, Red Hill, Samford Valley, Samford Village, Stafford, Strathpine, The Gap, Upper Kedron.

How is denture stomatitis treated?
Good oral hygiene - It is important to keep your mouth as clean as possible and rinse your mouth and dentures after meals. Smoking encourages the growth of further yeast infections.
Keeping your dentures as clean as possible - Keep your dentures out of your mouth as much as possible, and definitely overnight. Some yeast infections will clear up completely if you don't wear your dentures at night for two weeks. Clean your dentures by brushing, soaking and then brushing again. We, Denture Square recommend using a soft toothbrush so you do not damage the material of your dentures. You can also soak your dentures in any solution used to sterilise babies' bottles. If your denture has metal parts, do not use anything that contains bleach, but use chlorhexidine instead. Do not use chlorhexidine every day as it will stain your denture. Use it once a week.
Medication - If good oral hygiene and careful cleaning have not helped, you will be given some treatment. There are many treatments available, most of them involving sucking tablets or lozenges slowly in your mouth. You may need to continue the treatment for one month.

Denture Stomatitis

Denture Stomatitis is an oral biofilm associated inflammatory disease of the palatal mucosa. It is the most prevalent oral disease and the main indicator of poor oral health among denture wearers, affecting one-third of all complete denture wearers.
The etiology of DS is multifactorial, with documented role of mechanical trauma, bacteria and fungi. Risk factors may include, poor oral hygiene and nocturnal use of dentures. However, the evidence is ambiguous, inconclusive and recurrence following routine antifungal therapy is common.
The proposed study is a phase II clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy of palatal brushing in reducing the colony forming unit (CFU) count and clinical inflammation. The assessment of change in CFU count and clinical inflammation will be carried out at baseline, 3 months and 6 months.

Dentures are false teeth made to replace teeth you have lost. Dentures can be complete or partial. Complete dentures cover your entire upper or lower jaw. Partials replace one or a few teeth.
Advances in dentistry have made many improvements in dentures. They are more natural looking and comfortable than they used to be. But they still may feel strange at first. In the beginning, denture provider like Denture Square team may want to see you often to make sure the dentures fit. Over time, your mouth will change and your dentures may need to be adjusted or replaced. Be sure to let Denture Square team handle these adjustments.
Speaking and eating may feel different with dentures. Be careful when wearing dentures because they may make it harder for you to feel hot foods and liquids. Also, you may not notice biting on a bone from your food.

Caring For Mouth and Gum Tissues For Denture Wearers
When not wearing your dentures, always keep them in water or denture solution. Otherwise, the acrylic will dryout over time, causing them to not fit as well and become brittle.
It is important to remove dentures before you go to sleep at night, to allow your gum tissues to breathe. This helps to avoid irritation, discomfort, and infection of the soft tissue beneath your denture.
While dentures are out of mouth, use a dampened washcloth or very soft toothbrush with warm water (or salt water solution) to clean the tissues inside of your mouth. Be sure to wipe the ridges (where the denture sits), tongue, lips, cheeks, and roof of the mouth. Rinsing daily with lukewarm salt water can help keep your gums clean.
If you wear a partial denture, it is recommended that you use a separate soft toothbrush from your denture brush to clean your natural
teeth.

Denture Care (part1)

Denture Clinic Brisbane
Denture Square Brisbane
Denture Clinic Brisbane
HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR DENTURES
Daily Cleaning
Before cleaning, be sure to fill the sink with water or lay a soft towel down on basin. Dentures sometimes break if they fall and hit a hard surface.
Rinse dentures under warm water after each meal to remove loose food debris. Boiling or excessively hot water can cause the denture to warp and not fit any more.
All dentures should be brushed daily with a soft tooth brush or soft denture brush.
They can be brushed with warm water, soap or denture paste. Toothpaste is too abrasive and can cause scratches in the acrylic.
Cleaning tablets(Steradent,Polident tablets...) can be used while denture is soaking in water. These help to remove light stains and loosen plaque buildup. Everyone should follow the manufacturer’s instructions; each type/brand is different.
After soaking, be sure to rinse thoroughly under warm water before re-inserting into mouth. Mouthwash may be used after rinsing with water to give a fresh taste and feeling.

Sore Spots

Some discomfort is to be expected until your gums grow accustomed to their new task. If a sore spot develops, contact Denture Square. We can relieve it promptly. Another of the new denture tips is if you feel the sore spot during a holiday or weekend, just try to leave the denture out for a bit to lessen the irritation.
Any denture will gradually loosen and this may cause sore spots to develop.

Keep Dentures Clean

Just as stains and tartar can build up on natural teeth, so they can on dentures. Clean your dentures every day to keep them natural looking and odor-free. Another of my new denture tips is really a few safety rules. When handling your denture, be sure to do so over water or a towel to cushion the fall of you should drop them. When not wearing the denture, keep it immersed in water to prevent it from drying out.

Even though you no longer have teeth, you still have gums. Your gums and jaw bone will continue to recede once the natural teeth are gone. Because of this your dentures will eventually feel more loose and may need to be relined by your dentist. You will see over the counter products for do-it-yourself relines and repairs. By using these you run the risk of damaging your gum ridges and throwing your bite out of alignment.

New Denture Wearers (part 2)

Be Patient

New denture tips are helpful but there are no lessons or books; you simply must wear your dentures constantly. You will learn to master them and the more you want to learn the faster the process. In some ways it's like learning to drive. Some people learn without difficulty and some have a little trouble. Everybody can learn though. With daily practice, you will learn too.

Practice Talking
Some patients find it difficult to speak clearly and distinctly. For the most part, they have a tendency to lisp. This is caused by the dentures having altered the shape of the mouth. As soon as your tongue, lips and cheeks become accustomed, speech returns to normal. Another of the new denture tips is to practice talking in front of a mirror or simply reading aloud to yourself for a few minutes each day until you feel comfortable.

Learning To Eat
You should be able to eat most of your normal diet within a few weeks. In the beginning, though, start with soft, easily managed food. For example, chopped meat and tender vegetables are best. Take small bites and chew gently and thoroughly. Be sure you don't get into the habit of chewing on only one side of the mouth. Begin by placing half of each mouthful on one side and the other half on the other side. You can distribute the pressure more evenly this way and it helps one to learn to eat more easily.

denture repairs brisbane north

When it comes to eating hard foods such as apples or corn on the cob, here is one of the best new denture tips you can try to. When you bite with natural teeth there is a tendency to pull forward. With your dentures, develop the habit of pushing back a little, especially when you are eating something like corn on the cob. Pushing back as you bite helps produce the leverage needed to keep your dentures in place.

Sleeping With Dentures

It is quite common for people to wear their dentures all the time. If you grind your teeth while you sleep, you will wake up with a sore mouth and it would be best if you didn't wear your dentures at night. On the other hand, sleeping without teeth may cause your facial muscles to ache. If you do sleep with dentures in place, don't be surprised if you find them on your pillow in the morning. It won't happen often but it may in the beginning. You will find you adjust to what is best for you rather quickly. For more information on this go to the Denture Care section.

New Denture Wearers (Part 1)

You Can Smile Again (part1)
So you are now one of the millions of people in this country who wear dentures. Need some new denture tips? You may have some anxiety and worry but there are really no major problems that you are likely to encounter. There will be some minor annoyances and adjustments. In the near future your new dentures will provide you with a healthier mouth and probably a better appearance.
dentures brisbane north
You will find that your new teeth will be as lifelike as your dentist knows how to make them. The teeth used have been selected to match the shape, color and size of your natural teeth. Occasionally some minor changes are made to help improve your appearance. Incidentally, you may not want to insist on extremely white teeth. The goal to aim for is a natural look and few people have natural teeth that are bright white.
Getting Used to Dentures
When your new dentures are in place, your first impression will be that you have quite a mouthful. You may feel that your face looks "full" and the teeth may actually seem to be longer that they should. Your lips might seem out of place and your tongue will probably feel crowded. In addition, your salivary glands will appear to be working overtime and the increased saliva will be noticed.
denture clinic brisbane north
You will find that your mouth muscles are good at adapting and they will adjust to the new dentures. What you must do, though, is learn the trick of controlling your dentures and you can learn easily - with persistence and patience.
